One of my favorite things about the Dallas/Fort Worth area is that there are so many different neighborhoods, districts and towns, all complete with longtime favorite eateries and a never ending list of new restaurants to try! I recently visited a newer addition to the Dallas Design District: Wheelhouse Dallas, which opened in the spring of 2017.
The first dish up was the mussels and fries. The mussels were bathed in a green curry coconut milk broth and topped with thai basil, bean sprouts and a piece of toasted bread (perfect to dip in the tasty broth). The fries were served with a thai chili aioli for dipping. I loved this dish so much that I’d return just to order this again. Wow.
Next up for testing was the fish and chips. I had high hopes for these (I love fish and chips), but this one was somewhat disappointing. The fish batter was kind of soggy, and the thick fries were chalkier than I anticipated.
Dessert did NOT disappoint! My favorite pie in the world is my mom’s dutch apple pie, and this apple cranberry pie with an oat spiced streusel topping now comes in a close second (at least in the apple pie category). It’s normally served with ice cream and a cranberry sauce drizzled on top, but because of my dairy allergy, they served the ice cream on the side.
Our wait staff was attentive and friendly and, with a pretty please, they turned one of the TVs to a specific channel I requested (a day job client was being covered by the evening news – yippee!).
Wheelhouse Dallas is located at 1617 Hi Line Drive and is open 7 days per week for lunch and dinner. They have a brunch menu, make their own sausage and offer some vegetarian options. You can learn more and check out their menu at www.wheelhouse-dallas.com.
