Earlier this year, I tried Blatt Beer & Table for the first time. It’s located in Preston Hollow Village in Dallas, just off I-75 and Walnut Hill. The village is easy to get in and out of, with free garage parking and a Trader Joe’s as an anchor, for pleasant, easy shopping.
I had been craving chicken and waffles … something I resisted trying until several years ago because it just sounded weird to me. I’m not sure what was wrong with me, because it’s a match made in heaven! At Blatt Beer and Table, they put a unique and tasty twist on the traditional chicken and waffles using a jalapeno cornbread waffle.
This comfort food mashup of sweet and savory includes dixie-fried chicken strips, a jalapeño cornbread waffle, honey-orange butter, black pepper gravy and maple syrup. I couldn’t finish it, so there was no room for dessert, although this was an all-in-one lunch and dessert, so my sweet tooth left satisfied.
I know that taking a photo of your food in a restaurant is popular for a lot of people today … but I sometimes take it to a whole new level. A ridiculous one. It’s not just my food I take photos of. Everyone in my family knows that my phone eats before they do. I apologize to them, although it’s not a real apology — because I keep doing it. Wise to my ways, my friend ordered the same thing as me on this visit and dug into his food as soon as his plate hit the table. When I started to object, he smiled, with syrup dripping down his chin and said: “I ordered the same thing you did. You don’t need to photograph mine.” Well played. 😉
So … stay tuned for info about other dishes. I’ll update this review after we’ve returned. I’m already eyeing some other menu items for a different food mood day: vegan beet hummus, BBQ Brick Chicken, Crispy Skin Salmon or perhaps their Fish Sliders … hmmm ….
Blatt Beer & Table in Dallas is located at 7859 Walnut Hill Ln and offers vegan options, a kids’ menu, happy hours and Saturday and Sunday brunch. The service was attentive and the vibe was fun. We’ll be back!
